The body I stopped demanding from and learned to inhabit

Along my blog, I have invited you to reflect on the way we observe.
Today, I want to share something from my own experience.
For years, I saw my body as a tool.
I can now see how much I was overloading it.
Hours at the gym, long working days, always looking for something new to study, striving to perform at my best professionally and to give the best of myself as a mother.
Taking care of my family, making sure everything was ready for the next day, making time for family and friends… and, of course, sleeping very little.
After a knee injury, I began practicing Vinyasa Yoga more than 15 years ago, which was really challenging.
And over a year ago I discovered that, in reality, I knew very little about what yoga truly is.
I began exploring Yoga Nidra, Hatha, Yin, Kundalini, Embodied Movement, Ecstatic Dance, Pranayama and much more.
Then yoga stopped being simply a practice in my life and became a path.
That path transformed the way I see my body.
Today, I don’t simply observe it.
I contemplate it.
I see it as my temple.
And my relationship with it has completely changed.
Now, I take care of it.
I make an effort to give it the rest it needs.
I pay attention to what nourishment it needs and how it responds to different foods.
I give it space to move, to become stronger, more flexible and more energized.
I pay attention to the thoughts that live in my mind and let go more easily of those that don’t bring me peace.
I contemplate nature with all my senses.
And I contemplate my body, centimeter by centimeter.
Perhaps this is also what changing our perspective is about.
Moving beyond seeing ourselves only through what we can produce, achieve or accomplish.
And beginning to recognize ourselves simply for who we are.
My invitation today is to change the way you look.
Explore the world from another shore.
Maybe yoga isn’t your thing. And that’s perfectly okay.
Perhaps it’s walking, dancing, painting, meditation, being in nature, learning something new… whatever allows you to be amazed and discover new possibilities.
Because when we change the way we look, we can also discover new ways of inhabiting ourselves.
Of truly loving ourselves.
And of walking through this life with greater awareness, during this precious time in which we have been given the privilege of inhabiting this beautiful body.
From where are you observing your body… and your life today?
