Stopping isn’t giving up: what I learned from stepping away for 5 months

Sometimes stepping away isn’t about getting lost… it’s about finding yourself.

And somewhere in that process, I realised something important:

Do you Know when it’s time to take a step back?

We live in a culture that praises pushing forward no matter what.

"Keep going". "Stay strong." “You’ve got this.”

But there are moments in life that feel like heavy rain.

When we go through change, loss, grief, or transitions.

New beginnings that don’t always feel good at first.

Moments when trying to keep “flying” isn’t strength…it’s burnout.

Taking a step back is also moving forward

Like butterflies, there are times when the wisest thing we can do is pause.

Taking a step back isn’t giving up.

It’s listening to yourself.

It’s recognising your limits without judgment.

It’s understanding that you need care, space, and time.

It’s giving yourself permission not to hold everything together.

Because when you feel overwhelmed…

when you’re carrying more than you can handle…

when everything feels heavy and cold…

it’s not the time to push.

It’s time to take cover.

When it rains…

Butterflies don’t flight during the rain.

They don’t try to prove they can keep going.

They don’t force themselves to be strong.

They find shelter.

And it’s not weakness. It’s survival.

A single raindrop can damage their wings.

The weight of water makes flying impossible.

The cold drains the energy they need.

So they stop. They protect themselves.

A butterfly doesn’t stop being a butterfly because it pauses.

It doesn’t lose its ability to fly.

It doesn’t become less.

It simply waits.

And when the rain passes… when the sun comes back…

when they feel ready again…

they fly.

This was me

I’m here after five months of being quiet on social media.

And now I can see that the silence had a purpose.

Because there are moments in life when we need that space…to reset, to rebuild, to breathe differently.

Over the past months, I’ve been working on myself, training, learning, travelling, reconnecting, and spending quality time with family and friends.

I’m coming back now. Not from pressure…but from a more grounded, aligned place.

Have you ever felt this way?

An invitation

If you’re going through a “rainy season” in your life,

maybe you don’t need to push through today.

Maybe you need to be a little gentler with yourself.

Take a step back.Rest.

Give it time.

Because there are flights that are only possible after we've allowed ourselves to pause.
