How to Create Your Vision Map for the New Year?

A Vision Map is a graphic representation of what we want to experience, achieve, and accomplish in this new year. This exercise helps us outline the path to fulfilling our goals. Studies show that, often, dreams remain unfulfilled due to a lack of clarity, not because they don’t exist. By clearly defining what we want, it becomes easier to focus our energy and resources, significantly increasing the likelihood of achieving them.

Let’s get to work!

Step 1: Reflect and write

With a pencil and paper in hand, start by writing down everything that comes to mind. Reflect for a maximum of ten minutes on the following questions without overthinking:

  • What do I want to leave behind in 2024?

  • What do I want to embrace in 2025?

Take your time to write, erase, and rewrite. Think about this powerful questions from MindValley:

"What do I want to experience in life? Think about the moments that light you up—the trips you want to take, the relationships you want to nurture, the passions you want to explore.

How do I want to grow? This is about who you want to become. Do you want to learn a new skill? Cultivate better health? Strengthen your emotional resilience?

How do I want to contribute to the world? This isn’t just about philanthropy. It’s about making an impact—whether it’s mentoring someone, creating something meaningful, or simply spreading kindness.  Write down your answers. Be as specific as possible. If you want to travel, don’t just write “travel more”. Write, “I want to stand in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, eating a warm, buttery croissant, while my kids laugh and chase pigeons in the square”. (Can you see it? Feel it? That’s the power of detail.)"

Step 2: Identify the key areas of your lifeReflect on the areas of your life that are fundamental to achieving what you’ve defined. Some of these areas may include:

  • Health: body and mind

  • Family

  • Partner

  • Friends

  • Spirituality

  • Culture

  • Education

  • Housing

  • Finances

  • Work

  • Reading

  • Recreation

  • Travel

  • Sports

  • Volunteering

Feel free to add or remove areas depending on what is most relevant to you right now. Once you’ve identified them, answer these two questions for each area:

  • How am I currently doing?

  • What do I want to achieve, change, or accomplish?

This will help you define specific goals for each area. Additionally, assign deadlines for achieving them. If any goal seems too big, break it down into smaller, more manageable steps.

Step 3: Verify and adjust

Review whether your goals align with the answers you provided in the first step. Ask yourself:

  • Do they represent the lifestyle I want?

  • Do they reflect the growth I desire?

  • Do they include the impact I want to make on the world?

Make any necessary adjustments to ensure everything aligns with your dreams.

Step 4: Build your vision map

Begin creating your map. Use drawings, clippings, or illustrations that represent your goals and achievements, and place them on a board or poster. This will be your vision map for 2025. Once it’s finished, place it somewhere visible. This will help you stay focused on your purpose and motivate you every day.

Step 5: Design an action plan

Create a detailed plan outlining the specific steps and actions you need to take to achieve your goals.

Step 6: Track your progress

Stay committed to your process and trust yourself.

  • Dream big.

  • Evaluate your map weekly or at least monthly.

  • Every three months, update your map: reflect on your learnings and make necessary adjustments.

Flexibility is key to adapting to changes and challenges that may arise. Nothing is set in stone. Stay in control and, at the end of the year, reflect on your achievements and lessons learned to implement improvements for the next cycle.

To close, I leave you with these two quotes from Walt Disney:

"Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow."

"All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them."

I wish you a very happy 2025!
